PME Videos Worth Remembering

There have been so many great videos that have supported my learning in the PME program.

While it isn't feasible to save them all, the following are my favs and keepers.I store them here for quicker future reference, as I know I will want to see them again.

I wish I had thought of this sooner than courses 5 and 6!

In the PME tradition, I will introduce them as Inquiry

LEADERSHIP:

Is the Glass Ceiling a misrepresentation of the women's  leadership experience?

TEACHING/LEARNING:

Dr. Sugata Mitra's work in his research "Hole in the Wall" and self teaching.
I love the brilliant simplicity and cost effectiveness of his ideas.  Check Youtube for many other of his videos:

FLIPPED CLASSROOM:

I love this Ted Talk video and Sal Khan's plain-speak explanation of Flipped Classroom.  Finally, someone explained the flipping to me... lesson done outside classroom (in video they can replay/rewind!) so that the students can apply in class where the teacher is able to inspire and help.  Finally, I get it!  Now I want to try!

Sal Khan's Academy-
free lessons for all! Remember this for when helping the kids with homework!

CRITICAL THINKING:

Roland Case explains, in plain language, the difference between questions that lead to recall of facts and questions that lead to deeper and more critical thinking.  About 7 minutes long.

SPACED LEARNING:

I am officially a fan of Thomas Frank.  He has loads of videos with millions of views.  He did the impossible.  He took the heavy research (decades) and summarized spaced learning and put it in common language so I could begin considering it for teaching application.   He also showed how this research has helped to develop communities and technologies (free apps!) that students can use to immediately improve their memory, with less study time.  Sounds pretty amazing!

FUTURE FOCUSED LEARNING:
Prince EA created this courtroom based rant about how our educational system hasn't changed in in 150 years and how it needs to be more future focused to produce better learning for our students.  YES!!!!
